We’re officially in the third trimester! I’ve gained about 24 pounds and still working out at the gym. I’m feeling big, but I think the exercise has really helped because I don’t feel fat. I am surprised at how big my belly has gotten over the last few weeks though. And Eliza moves a lot! I guess Shane and I only know how to make lively and energetic people.
The extreme sleepiness seems to have calmed down. Although Shane’s snoring doesn’t help and I’m actually writing this at 5:30am after waking up at 4:30am and giving up on going back to sleep. I’m really tired so I can’t figure out why I can’t be more of a heavy sleeper. It’s a bit annoying.
My hands are starting to swell up like they did with Ana. They get all hot and swollen after being on the treadmill for about 20 minutes. Yesterday we went to Casa de Fruta and the weather was gorgeous. It was in the 70’s and breezy. I was in heaven and told Shane we should really plan a trip to Gilroy Gardens or Great America. Fast forward an hour and I was irritatingly hot and tired and my fingers felt like they were going to burst at the tips because they were so swollen. We had a great time there, but it was really really good that we left when we did.
Mom drove down on Monday and went to the hospital tour at Sutter with me. It’s super fabulous! The nurse doing the intro went on and on about how they advocate skin-to-skin for the first two hours of baby’s life! I’m so happy to hear this. It’s not set up like a typical hospital. They only deliver babies 36 weeks or older because they aren’t set up to care for preemies long-term. So, if I happen to go into labor before 36 weeks I’ll have to go to CHOMP emergency or Dominican in Santa Cruz. I’m praying to make it safely to Sutter. It seems like a good fit for me since I really want practically no intervention. I just need someone there to catch the baby. Plus! They have soaking tubs! I’m thinking I’ll try that out. I found out that they will admit me if I am at least 3 cm dilated. That means I can leave the house before the contractions really start hurting. With Charlotte, I remember walking into L&D and thinking I should be in much more pain and there was a good chance they would send me home. I was 6 cm and Charlotte popped out 2 hours later. I think I’m pretty lucky to have this kind of labor where it’s only super painful for the last hour or two. Hopefully, Eliza won’t try to spice things up and be a total rebel!
