When I was pregnant with Charlotte, I had terrible allergies. I’ve had seasonal allergies, but they were never consistent year to year and they were never really that bad. The symptoms I had when I was pregnant were really bad and they got worse after I gave birth, which prompted me to actually go and see an allergist. Turned out that I was severely allergic to dust mites. I wondered if this could have been brought on by my pregnancy with Charlotte, but since we happened to move to PG at the time, it made more sense that it was all the humidity and the shag carpet.
I could control my symptoms by vacuuming every other day, dusting really well once a week, and turning the dehumidifier on when it rained. I still had symptoms, but they weren’t as bad. If I didn’t do these things religiously, I paid for it. I was buying boxes of Kleenex every single time I went to Target.
So how bad was it? Sneezing 20 times in a row was not uncommon. I’d actually have a hard time catching my breath because I couldn’t stop sneezing. And if I got a minor cold, I’d lose my sense of taste and smell during the cold and then for a month after the cold was gone. Do you know what torture it is to make Bacon Alfredo with Chicken and not be able to taste it!?
Anyway, Shane and I just realized that I haven’t had any (ANY!) symptoms in months! Is it possible that I developed that allergy while pregnant with Charlotte and now this pregnancy has cured me of it? Sounds strange, but I’m really thinking that that has happened! I’ll know for sure this winter when we all tend to get sick a lot, but considering we moved here in June and I survived this past June with no issues, I’m really hopeful. Plus, I’ve been terrible about vacuuming for the past few months and it hasn’t affected me at all.
