This is how I started off my day. FaceTime with Shane and Eliza. Shane said she really wants to carry the phone around with her all day while FaceTiming with me. But I still don’t miss her. Nope. Not at all.
I needed to do something at Mom’s today; I decided to walk instead of drive, since I’ve been driving so much the last couple of days. It was a good thing too because I left around 11am and I had only racked up 500 steps.
After I left her place, I decided to walk downtown and check out the shops, like I used to when I was at DLI. Sometimes, on the weekend, I would spend the whole day walking around Monterey and Pacific Grove.
I stopped at Book Works (looked at books and bought a piece of lemon cake), wandered around Grove Market (prices are surprisingly reasonable for such a tiny grocery store), and finally visited Pavel’s Backerei. Apparently this bakery is very popular and somehow it took me 6 years to figure that out. I bought the most incredible looking chocolate cupcake. It was $4, but I thought that was a really good price considering how much those fancy cupcakeries charge. Unfortunately, it was very unhappy that I decided to take the long way home. Oh well, I guess that means I’ll have to go back and get another so I can show you how beautiful it once was. I think it would be fun to take each kid there on their birthday to have a special cupcake, with just Mom, of course.
I was thinking that I really wanted to walk along the ocean so I walked back towards Asilomar. I took this shot and then realized there were seals! They even had a baby!
I also found a new trail that goes from Asilomar State Beach to Spanish Bay. This is looking out to Asilomar…
Here’s looking out at Spanish Bay…
I finished Better Than Before, which I plan to listen to all over again. But I ordered the Better Than Before Day-to-Day Journal and will wait until then. I downloaded the Rick Roll app and started to listen to his podcasts from the very beginning. He’s up to podcast #229, so I have lots of walk/run material to go through!
I ended up walking a little over 8 miles by the time I got home! My feet felt a little raw and I was tired. But not too tired to make some pasta puttanesca! I’ve never had it before and that is such a tragedy because I loved it. It has my two favorite flavors: fish and black olives. I feel like a dope for never trying to make it before. It sounded so fancy, but really, it was so easy–just throw the ingredients in a pot and simmer for an hour.
Well, guess what! I’m going to bed well after 10pm again. In my defense, I did have a lot to write about today. Perhaps tomorrow I’ll do better.
