The birds did an excellent job this morning. I was out of bed at 5:50 am and out the door to Starbucks (2 miles down the hill) at 6:10 am. Got myself a coffee with raspberry syrup, room for cream, blueberry oatmeal and The New York Times. I mostly got the paper for the Book Review but I found so many interesting things to read. It’s ridiculous how happy this all made me.
After about 1.5 hours, I had to get up and walk around, so I headed back to PG (Starbucks is in Monterey) along the Coastal Trail. I spotted this hawk hanging out on a rock. It’s right in the middle of the picture.
I had decided that I was going to watch The Lobster and had over an hour to kill before it started, so I found a bench near Lover’s Point. It was a chilly, foggy, dreamy sort of morning. My view from the bench…
I started this book, which is part of my Goodwill haul from last weekend. I’m really liking it so far.
As I was sitting on the bench reading and thinking, I happened upon a string of thoughts about sleep. I ended up writing 1.5 pages in my notebook about it and what a high! It’s my kind of thing, this sitting and thinking and writing. I can’t remember the last time I’ve been able… no, the last time I’ve made the time to do that. I don’t even care if my theory makes sense, if later I completely abandon it as illogical. It felt good and there’s something important in that.
I made it to the theater in good time. I love my little town so much. Our little theater has four screens and I’ve never seen it crowded. Actually, I’m not sure how they make enough money to stay open. Maybe it does get crowded at night. Anyway, I saw The Lobster. I had watched the trailer so I was expecting it to be weird. But I’m not sure it’s possible to prepare one’s self for that kind of weirdness. I didn’t love it. But I can’t say I didn’t like it either, because the time went by pretty quickly–I was thoroughly entertained, if not horrified or perplexed for brief moments.
I walked home after that. I walked 6.5 miles total. I took a shower, changed my bed sheets and read my book… for about 1 minute before I fell asleep. My first nap since the kids left. It did not disappoint.
