**I wrote this a few months ago while Caleb was on Summer vaca**
Caleb loves math. Reading? Not so much. He once said about reading, “But it’s way more fun to go outside and play.” How can you argue with that kind of logic?
Since he’s on Summer break right now I thought it would be very responsible of me to try to teach him something. Or at least help him to not brain dump everything he just learned over the past year. But I’m a realist and decided to stick with what he likes (or what he’s less likely to fight with me over).
I got the Start Right math program that I learned about the from The Jos. It’s pretty cool. It comes with an abacus, and a little plastic clock that looks pretty cheap but it’s kind of awesome how the little hand doesn’t move independently. You have to move the little hand by moving the big hand.
Anyway, one day we were doing a few lessons. And Caleb says to me…
C: Mom! 25 plus 25 plus 25 plus 25 is 100!
Me: Yes! That’s great Caleb!
C: And 25 plus 25 plus 25 plus 25 plus 25 is 125!
Me: Yes! That’s fantastic! But you know, there’s another way to say that…
C: Oh! I know!
Me: You do? What’s another way to say 25 plus 25 plus 25 plus 25 is 100?
C: I know that! Give me 100 bucks!!
Me: Um… not quite.
