I took the girls out to Carmel to do the Hatton Canyon trail. We didn’t finish it because I misread the distance. I thought it was 1.5 miles but it was actually 3 miles. Too far to go with the girls right now. Especially since I didn’t have the hiking pack for Eliza.
But I’m glad we went because it was quite difficult to find. I had to pull over three times and look at the hiking book and then had to ask someone at The Banyard shopping center where the trail is located. This site has an overview map in their slider of the area. That would have helped.
The trail starts off as a bike trail.
There is a tunnel that runs under Carmel Valley Road. The girls were really excited when they saw this.
The trail eventually turns into gravel.
Love these yellow flowers that line the trail. I’m not sure what they are. Ohhh… I think we need to visit Lupine Loop again to see if the lupines have bloomed.
Eliza is so cute how she stumble runs.
And another for the grandparents…
I’ve realized that I need to start putting Eliza in the hiking pack, even on short hikes. She just doesn’t want to follow us. I tried to walk ahead where she couldn’t even see us. I’d peek around so I could see her but she just didn’t care. She wanted to play in the dirt. So we stopped here for a snack and she got to play in the dirt a little.
On the way back to the car the girls spent about 10 minutes yelling and singing in the tunnel. I think it was their favorite part.
