Shane and I are really excited about the kids getting older so we can do more active things like go hiking and camping. I tried to talk him into going hiking two Sundays ago, but all he could think about was how he’d end up carrying one (or two) of the girls on the way back.
So we decided to walk down to Spanish Bay in Pebble Beach since it’s about a 45 minute walk with kids (25 if walking fast sans kids). He ended up carrying Charlotte some on the way back so I was glad he talked me out of a more strenuous hike.
Charlotte likes to dawdle. Since she refused to ride in the stroller we had Coco walk her some of the way. That worked out really well since Coco is big enough to pull her along but not so big to drag her to the ground.
The ocean always makes me happy. I don’t actually like swimming in the ocean, but I love to be near it. It’s just as well since the water here is in the 50’s. Chilly.
Eliza enjoyed crawling around in the sand…
Playing in the sand…
And the most perfect thing happened! Dolphins! You can’t really see them in this picture but if you look close you can see one black dot.
I love my life.
And an update on getting back into shape:
Right now I’m doing Week 4 of the Couch to 5K program. I’m also running on my own around the neighborhood trying to find a few good short loops that I can repeat. My trainer suggested it when I told her that I think my biggest obstacle to becoming a good running is the psychological aspect.
I found a 0.5 miles loop and did really well with limiting my walking time. I did 2.4 miles at an 11m30s pace.
I ordered Jillian Michael’s 30-day Shred video. I’m going to try it out this week.
And I tried a yoga class at an actual yoga studio. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t do my research and took a Bikram yoga class, which is done in a heated room at 105-degrees and 40% humidity. But it had to be more humid than that because it’s usually 60-70% in my house and the instructor had a humidifier going! And I was under the heater! Not only was the profuse sweating weird and uncomfortable, but my later research discovered that the inventor is a creepy guy and now I can’t bring myself to go back even though I prepaid three sessions.
There are two more yoga studios in the area I might try later.
