Over ten years ago, Shane and I bought an Ikea Ektorp couch. My mom actually has it now. It’s still really very comfortable despite being jumped on by three kids for many years.
But there were two things that bothered me about it. The first is that I developed a severe allergy to dust mites when I was pregnancy with Charlotte and it was aggravated by the fabric. The second is that I chose that crazy patterned cover (see the picture with Caleb and Eliza). I swear it looked nice in our former house. But it really started to bug me after we moved to our current home.
And then!! I was lucky enough to catch an add on Craigslist for a matching couch and loveseat for $20 each!! An older couple moving to Germany had used them for about 12 years so they’re a bit worn but it’s really not any worse than the Ikea couch. And they are a bit redder than Shane’s chair, but I like it much better than the black and white design.
I’ve had much great luck finding things on Craigslist. I love that there’s an option beyond shopping at stores and finding time to go to yard sales.
I have the couch pushed all the way up against the wall. But there is still a little space behind it because of the window.
The girls love to climb over the back of the couch, get into this little space, climb back over onto the couch and repeat until they get caught.
Shane caught them last night as Charlotte was climbing back onto the couch with the curtain wrapped around her.
He says in his Man Voice, “STOP IT! NO!!!!”
He’s holding Eliza in one arm and grabs Charlotte’s hand with the other, picks her up and swings her off the couch onto the floor while saying, “NO, NO, NO!!!!”
And Charlotte says, “Whhhheeeeeeeee!!!!
She is totally unfazed by his authority.
Do you love Craigslist?
Do you have allergies?
Are you kids unfazed by your authority or are they good little listeners (HAHAHA!)?
Have you managed to get your kids to keep butts in seats?
