It’s been a few days since I’ve blogged. I’ve realized that I often let Shane’s busyness at work derail my fitness and life progress. It seems at least once a month something urgent is due and he ends up working insane hours—he gets home after I go to sleep and then leaves before I wake up. Of course, I want to be a good partner and so I pick up the slack; I realize that I can perform some of his chores without as much hassle as he would suffer. But after a few days of this… I start to notice my jaws clenching, my time to do happy frivolous things (like blogging) is disappearing, and so my resentment grows. And because I learned the unfortunate habit of self-destruction when I was growing up, that’s what I do. I stop doing the things that help me get through the stress.
I’m not sure how I was able to see what was going on this time. Maybe I’m finally coming out of the I-was-a-stay-at-home-mom-much-longer-than-benefitted-my-happiness fog.
I did fall behind a bit in my schoolwork, but what I did accomplish this past week was so very satisfying. I made a mini-comic!! But first, I want to tell you about how I started using my running journal again. I’m using the Believe Training Journal (Lavender Edition)*. I actually started using it about a year ago, but abandoned it. This time I’ll finish it.
And here is my mini-comic! After I sketched out the panels, I traced it onto a sheet of clean paper and then inked the drawings. I actually think the sketches were better. I really prefer the look of sketching. Anyway, here’s my mini-comic about Raina Telgemeier. (I used the Pixar Pitch to write the script. #6 here.)
And the best part? I inspired my very-easy-to-inspire girls. It’s one of my favorite things about them. Charlotte drew a coloring page of a dinosaur that she insisted I make copies of. Then she handed them out to Ana and Eliza to color.
Ana started reading Smile*. And when I picked Eliza up from preschool yesterday she had made a mini-comic! Just scribbles in it and only she could “read” it, but actually I think that makes it even more awesome.
I’m pretty sure some of next week will be crazy again—long hours for Shane in the beginning of the week, dentist appointment for Eliza the day before I have 4(!) papers due in my comics class (which I haven’t even started yet). Also I’m going to the “Shoot More Artistic Photos with iPhone” Apple class! Should be a busy but satisfying week by the time it’s done.
