About two weeks ago I signed Caleb and Ana up for our local youth track club! They advertise for 7-14 year olds but I asked if Ana could participate in the practices and not the meets. They said yes! She is by far the smallest runner (at 4.5 yo) but she makes up for it with effort.
I was a little annoyed that they don’t have youth track listed in our local rec program. They have the track meets on the calendar but no info for signing up for track. I had to email the rec dept. to get the application. Caleb missed out on a few years of track but I’m just glad I know about it now. I did hear from one of the parents that there is no track or cross-country program at the middle school, which is totally unacceptable. Maybe not track so much since there is the city rec program, but they should have cross-country! Changing that will be my mission when Caleb starts going there.
Caleb loves to run and I just can’t express how happy that makes me. On the way to practice last week we had this conversation…
Me: Do you like track?
Caleb: Oh yeah! I really like it.
Me: Better than baseball?
Caleb: Yeah, I think so. I like it a lot ’cause I really like beating people.
I’m really looking forward to the first track meet. I wonder what events he will run.
Here is a short video of Ana running part of a relay. It’s hard to hear but one of the moms said “She’s gonna be a runner” and then one of the dads said “Yeah, the baton is as big as she is”.
I’m really impressed with how determined she is. And she’s not even 5 yet! Even her form is pretty awesome! …ok, ok, I’ll stop being all braggy now.
I’m so excited to watch my kids grow as runners! I’m don’t think Charlotte will be such an enthusiastic runner. She’s more the creative type. But Caleb and Ana definitely have that running spirit in them.
