Today was the first day I had Caleb write in his journal with the March writing prompts I prepared. I love his answer and I think he’s really going to like answering the prompt for March 29th: “Why is it so much fun to fart and burp?”.
The only instruction I gave him was to write at least three sentences. He got confused and thought I meant for him to write about three memories. He asked if he could stop at this point, and I thought he had written a good amount so I let him stop.
I wasn’t sure, at that point, if I should have him correct his mistakes or not. On one hand, it’s a good opportunity to learn, but on the other hand, it would be a great way to look back and see how he has improved.
I had him at least capitalize the first words in each sentence and correct the spelling on “cot” but let the other things go.
I got some mixed opinions from friends so I’ve decided what I’ll do for now is talk about the corrections but have him leave his writing alone. Maybe I’ll have him write down the words he misspelled and give him a spelling test at the end of the week.
Besides this, today went a little better. I managed to control my temper better. Caleb became despondent at one point and I sent him to his room until was in a better mood. I went in the kitchen to clean up a little bit and went back to check on Ana about five minutes later. I was so pleased to see Caleb working and nearly finished with his assignment. I told him how proud I was of him for coming out so quickly and working on his assignment. It was a happy moment.
I won’t dwell on the 1.5 hours it took to get through our bible study :/
