Caleb went back to school yesterday so it was just me and the girls. I took them to George Washington Park, which is less than a 5 minute drive from where we live. Notice that Eliza is wearing a cozy fur-lined sweater jacket and Charlotte is in a sleeveless dress. It was 51 degrees. Perfect wear-whatever-the-heck-you-like weather.
We’ve been to this park before for Caleb’s baseball games. I never noticed that the park has walking trails. There is also a playground here, which we stopped at afterwards.
This was a pretty boring “hike” and looked very much like the forest section at the end of our street.
But it turned out to be a lot of fun for the girls with all the little loops. I told them they could choose which way we go.
They were so excited that they got to lead the way, so that made it more tolerable. I think I’ll be bringing them here a lot in the summer when they’re driving me nuts and I need to get out of the house.
There were a few fallen trees, none of which were blocking the trail. But they chose to climb over most of them anyway.
Eliza had to copy…
This is the third Quest bar I’ve tried. I like this flavor a lot better than the others I’ve tried. Last night I was browsing the #questnutrition Instagram pics and it seems a lot of people bake or microwave these bars. I think I’ll try that for the next time.
I packed some applesauce in the Yummi Pouches. I haven’t taken them on a hike before and I think it worked out really well. If I can manage to plan ahead, it would be great to make something more nutritious in the blender and then freeze in the Yummi Pouches. Then I can pack them for a longer hike.
Charlotte bouncing on the bridge.
I also took a video of Ana and Charlotte jumping off one of the landings. They had done it about a dozen times, so I decided to take a video. Charlotte whacked her chin on her knee and cut her tongue up on both sides. Yup. Best mom ever.
This is hike #39 from my Monterey Hikes list.
Hiking distance: 1 mile round trip
Hiking time: 1 hour, including play-time at the playground
Configuration: interconnecting loops
Elevation gain: level
Exposure: shaded forest
Hiking buddies: the girls
Would you do it again? Yes, definitely.
Best for… young kids
