Caleb is off at day camp this week and the girls across the street are at sleep-over camp. It’s been very quiet and I’m surprised at how much I miss them. I’ve come to really enjoy hanging out in the garage crafting/reading blogs (also getting snacks and whateverelse every 2.5 minutes) and hanging out in the street chatting with my neighbors and encouraging the older ones to develop their communication skills with each other (aka Stop arguing! You’re driving me nuts!)
I’ve gone on a few longer runs at about 2 miles. I ran down to Spanish Bay and only made it 16 minutes before I had to stop. I walked 2 minutes and then jogged another 4 minutes. I really pushed myself. I was disappointed that it was such a hard run for me since I had easily gone 25 minutes without walking before I got sick. I told Shane that I had planned to stop at 2 miles but decided to finish my course because I wanted something to compare to later on. He said he was really proud of me because he thinks I am starting to conquer the mental side of it. That perked me right up.
I have been thinking a lot lately that I need to step up my game. I have been reading some awesome Runner Mom blogs and they really inspire me.
I am doing the One Hundred Pushup challenge with Inspiration on the Run. As far as I can tell, she only has a FaceBook page. It’s nice to see the reminders that she posts. I downloaded the iPhone app.
My phone has become really important to me. There are so many apps I use that help stay focused on exercise. Here are the ones I use regularly:
Music: I have a Workout playlist with Pat Benatar, Maroon 5, Rihanna, Black Eyed Peas, and Katy Perry. I also listen to Reggae a lot.
Interval Run: This one has the C25K program preprogrammed. It pauses my music to tell me when to run and when to walk. You can also program your own interval workout.
NikePlus: I used to use MapMyRun but I like NikePlus better. I had some issues with logging my treadmill time but they’ve recently fixed it and it works well now. The best feature for me is that it ranks me and my friends for miles completed during the week. It’s driving me really crazy right now that I’m #5 of 5. I’m going to totally crush everyone next month… except my one friend who runs 7 miles in less than an hour.
Nike Training: I used this for the first time this evening and I LOVE it! It has so many different workouts! I really like being told what to do and not having to come up with my own workout routine. You can choose what to focus on and there is also a great stretching workout from Kara Goucher that is good for pre-runs. Definitely going to try that one out! Before you start a workout, you can click on each exercise and get instructions on how to do them.
Hundred Pushups: I’m not convinced I’ll really be able to do 100 pushups but I’m shooting for 60. Then I plan to challenge Shane to a pushup contest. When I beat him, he’s going to be really sad that he hasn’t been going to the gym. mwahahaha!
Today I did the Nike Training Leaner Legs workout and W1D3 on Hundred Pushups:
3 cycles of 1 minute sets (with no break!)
Alternating step back lunges
Drop squat lunges (killer!)
Jump wood chop
Side lunge with rotation (no medicine ball but just as well cause I would have passed out)
Total 63 pushups
14, 14, 10, 10, 15 with 60 second rests
