I was really excited to receive my order of Organic Oatmeal from MyOatmeal.com I’m pretty terrible at eating breakfast. I don’t like very sweet things and with so many little ones running around, I don’t have much time. So oatmeal is a good option but it gets pretty boring.
That’s why I was so excited about MyOatmeal.com. You can choose a flavoring and add dried fruits, nuts, seeds and more.
I decided to order the different varieties of oatmeal (quick, 5-grain, smash blend and steel-cut) and a few flavors. I chose not to add fruits and nuts because I wanted to be able to taste the flavoring better.
Here is what I ordered and the results…
Butter Rum (5 grain mix)
I first made it with vanilla soy milk. It was sweet enough for me but I couldn’t really detect the Butter Rum flavoring. But I absolutely LOVE the texture of the 5 grain mix. It’s hearty and slightly chewy and I will definitely be ordering this oatmeal blend again.
I made it again with water and stevia next. I still couldn’t taste the Butter Rum flavor that much but I could taste the barley and rye. As much as I love the texture of this blend I think next time I will order it with no flavoring but add banana chips and pecans or figs and cashews or mangos and chia seeds.
Then I used it to make my favorite oatmeal cookies. Surprisingly, I could taste the Butter Rum flavoring better. The texture was a little different, with bits of chewy pieces. The kids didn’t like it very much though.
German chocolate (steel-cut oats)
I first made oatmeal with water and a bit of stevia. I realized then that I just don’t care for oatmeal made with water. I could taste the chocolate and flavor was yummy but I wanted some creaminess.
So I then made a batch with vanilla soy milk and oh wow this was delicious! I loved the chewy heartiness of the steel-cut oats. The flavor was so good and I think next time I will order it with some almonds and chipped coconut.
Cheesecake (Smash blend – oats, barley and rye)
I made this with vanilla soy milk and the flavor was subtle but it was still really yum. I really liked the texture of this blend and the flavor of the oatmeal mix seemed less overpowering than the 5-grain mix.
The cheesecake oatmeal cookies were a huge hit with the kids. I couldn’t detect the flavoring as well as the lemon cookies but I did think they were really good also. Caleb insisted they were sweeter than the plain oatmeal cookies even though I didn’t put more sugar in them.
Lemon Meringue (quick oats)
I made oatmeal cookies with these and they were a huge hit with the kids! I really loved them too. The flavoring was much more noticeable than the other flavors.
I also made oatmeal with vanilla soy milk and that was really yummy also. Even though it wasn’t as hearty as the other varieties, I really appreciated how quick and easy it was to make in the morning. It was super yum with fresh strawberries.
The Lemon Meringue was my favorite flavor. I’ll probably order the 4 lb. bag next time!
