My mom came to visit for a few days! She brought her new kitten and so Ana was nicely distracted, which allowed us to get quite a bit of sewing done!
I finished the pillow cover. I’m happy with it, but not in love. The linen is a bit too dark and embroidered flowers should be a bit closer to the middle. But, I’m not so unhappy with it that I feel compelled to redo the entire thing. So, YAY! A finished project!
And below, you’ll see my new serger! My mom bought it for me over a year ago, but I didn’t have anywhere to put it, so she was hanging on to it. It’s a Baby Lock!! It does three threads and I’m so excited to play around with it. I’ll likely have Caleb’s PJ set be my first serger project. But first, I really really need to finish that Dragonfly quilt.
It really grosses my mom out that we change Ana on the floor, with nothing between her sweet (or poopy) little bottom and the carpet. I suppose it should gross me out too, but it doesn’t. But, I try to be a good and obedient daughter, so I obliged her by whipping up this diaper changing pad.
And I have to say, I really love it! I made it out of oilcloth on both sides with cotton padding in between. At first, I was thinking about doing oilcloth on one side and flannel or quilting cotton on the other side. That is how most of them are on Etsy.
But, after realizing that you can’t machine wash oilcloth, I didn’t think that would be very practical since you could therefore, never machine wash the cotton side. That would get icky.
I love the functionality of the oilcloth for diaper changing. If you get poop on it, just wipe it off. No need to worry about how long it’ll sit in the laundry basket before you have time to wash it.
The only problem is that oilcloth is tricky to sew. Joanna! I totally get what you were saying about it getting stuck on the feed dogs!! AARRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!
I used my walking foot and that worked out much better, but still not easy. I did some research online and got some good tips. I’m going to try them out and see what really works.
I think the binding is so pretty and goes so well with the oilcloth.
