I’ll be going to Hawaii in August for the wedding of my best friend from high school. Originally, I was one of the bridesmaids but there were some issues with what I would do with Charlotte since I’d still be nursing her. After much discussion and mind-changing, it’s settled on me weaning Charlotte two months early and I’ll be going by myself to the wedding as a regular guest, not as a bridesmaid.
I’ve always wanted to make myself a dress and thought this would be a great opportunity. I found this pattern, Vogue 8645, and this is perfect!
It’s not tight around my belly (which for some reason is a bit flabby), it has a modest neckline, it’s very easy (only 5 pieces!), it’s lined, and the best part is that it has POCKETS!!! You know you’re a mom when pockets in a pretty dress make you excited.
As usual, I must do things in a tedious manner. First, I made a copy of the pattern with my favorite Pattern Ease. I’m using some of the sale fabrics from my shop, Michael Miller’s Eva in Amber. I’ve got quite a lot of it and I thought it would make a fine sample dress.
If the sizing works out, I want to make the real dress with this Jenaveve cotton/linen fabric in Garden Fresh.
I fell in love with it when I saw this awesome dress. But maybe it’s too busy for a wedding? I’ll have to keep looking. Anyone seen any fabulous fabric perfect for a dress?
