I called Aetna on Monday (3 days ago) and the person I spoke to confirmed that Sutter Maternity and Surgery Center was NOT in-network. Disappointing. But I thought it was good that at least Dominican Hospital was in-network and this was likely a better choice than the Salinas hospitals.
But yesterday, I couldn’t stop thinking about how strange it was that Sutter Maternity and Surgery Center listed my type of Aetna insurance on their list of accepted insurances. The page had been updated less than 2 months ago. So, I gave it one more try and searched for information about Aetna and Sutter.
I happened to find an Aetna news release that in January of this year they signed a 2-year contract with Sutter Health network. Then I searched for the Sutter Health website. Sutter Health network of Northern California! And Sutter Maternity and Surgery Center was listed as one of their hospitals!
I then sent an email to Aetna explaining that their website and agent were telling me Sutter in NOT in-network but I think there could be some mistake.
I got an email from them this morning saying that it really IS in-network!! I am so happy that I didn’t give up! It’s pretty crazy that I had to go through all this trouble just to get them to admit that they accept this hospital though. Hopefully they’ll fix their records.
I’ve heard some great things about this place. Like a balcony in every delivery room, private bathrooms and really good room service. Even though it’ll likely be an hour drive, it doesn’t bother me because unlike Kaiser, I do not have to be far into labor to be admitted. So, we will likely leave early on so the ride will be somewhat comfortable.
