I took Mom to the hospital for a liver biopsy, which is an out-patient procedure. While I was waiting during pre-op, I chatted with a guy whose wife has a liver cancer. It started off with jaundice and she had also had liver biopsy. Not what I wanted to hear!
Although his wife also had a large tumor, which they’ve already ruled out for my mom. His wife was originally giver 4-6 months to live! But they went to a place called Scripps Proton Therapy in San Diego and they now think she has a chance. She’s a 3rd grade teacher. I probably won’t be able to stop thinking about her for a long time.
The doctor was nice enough to call me over when he explained the procedure in detail to Mom. It sounded much more serious than I had assumed. Apparently Mom and I both feel the need to make inappropriate jokes when we get nervous. I may or may not have made a joke about a Gray’s Anatomy episode. I’m pretty sure the doctor will be telling his wife tonight about the crazy mother/daughter duo he met today.
The doctor and nurse seemed confused about why I was going to go have fun explore San Jose book stores instead of wait with her in recovery. But I don’t care. Everything is going to be fine and I don’t see what the point is in sitting with her like a Nervous Nelly instead of letting her relax and rest, which is much more likely to aid in the healing process.
I checked out a few Goodwills and found a few good books, but this was my big score for $2!! The Amadeus soundtrack on vinyl!!
I also went to Mitsuwa Marketplace for some new pens and lunch. I got this bento box with chicken katsu and saba. It’s my favorite kind of fish.
The procedure went really quickly and was practically pain-free according to Mom.
I came home and took a nap. Then went out and got another bottle of something for removing the glue in Caleb’s room. Goo Gone didn’t do it. I really need to get that stuff cleaned up.
