Now that I’ve made it sound like I’m an expert at training kids to accept an early bedtime, let me introduce you to Charlotte:
While Caleb and Ana took to our methods very well, Charlotte is a sleep rebel. She refuses to lay in bed and take a proper nap. But if she gets tired, she will sneak away and do this…
Or get very tired and cranky, throw a tantrum about nothing, and then do this…
About once a week she attempts to usurp us. The tricky thing with her is that she sleeps in the same room as Caleb and Ana. So, we can’t leave her in there if she throws a tantrum.
Sometimes we are able to put her back in bed with no other incident. Other times, we give her some milk and she is satisfied with that and will go back to bed. Sometimes we stick her in front of the TV all by herself with the lights off. Other times, I’ll lay with her on the couch. Sometimes she falls asleep within minutes. Other times, I give up and go to bed and let Shane deal with her.
Do I have a point? Yes. Yes, I do.
Even seasoned experts like us (ahem) can be humbled by the extra-strong personality of a two-year-old suffering from severe Terrible Twos syndrome. Or maybe it’s Hardheaded Personality syndrome.
