I know this is only my third hike, but it’s by far the most beautiful. I kept saying “Look at how gorgeous that is!! We are so lucky living so close to this!”. The other thing I repeated was “This dang iPhone doesn’t come close to capturing this awesomeness”.
The trail map says to start along Hwy 1. I was really confused because there is no trail. I later read in the hike description that you need to park along Hwy 1 and walk along the road down the the Rocky Point Restaurant parking lot. That’s because they can tow your car if you are not eating at the restaurant. But we got there before they opened so we just parked in their lot.
The kids immediately took off running down the trail. It was pretty rocky so I’m very happy I didn’t bring the little ones along.
This was on the way down from Rocky Point. I kept screaming at them “Get away from the edge!! If you fall, it’s a mistake you can’t take back!! I love you!! Please don’t fall!! Get away from the edge!!!”
Yes, that is my finger.
There is actually a new trail (picture below with the railing). It heads north and then inland and ends behind the restaurant. This was a really pretty walk.
This is hike #99 from my Monterey Hikes list.
Hiking distance: 1.3 miles round trip
Hiking time: 30 minutes
Elevation gain: 100 feet
Difficulty: physically easy but moderately technical
Exposure: open coastal bluffs
Hiking buddies: Caleb, Laura and her girls.
Would you do it again? Definitely. I will probably force everyone I know to see it.
