For the past several years I’ve gotten the December blahs. I feel overwhelmed with all the stuff to do and find it difficult to focus on the true meaning of Christmas. I’m irritable and cranky and constantly feel like I’m not going to get everything done that I *need* to get done.
So this year, I tried something brilliant. I decided not to do some things. No Christmas cards. No custom calendars. No Christmas boxes filled with delicious goodies from Trader Joes.
And then something strange happened. I felt even worse.
So a few days ago I designed a custom calendar for Shane. He has commented several times throughout the year how much he appreciates it. And if a man is actually voicing his appreciation for a custom calendar with pictures of his kids, then that man is worth the two hours of my frustration.
And since I went through all that trouble, it really wasn’t much more work to do a few more. So I made one for my dad and parents-in-law.
I also decided to send out a few boxes…
But I got smart this year. Instead of hoping and assuming that next year will be easier because the kids will be older (so far that hasn’t panned out well), I decided to do a little extra work to make my life easier next year.
I made a list of all the goodies I can fit in a large flat-rate and medium flat-rate box.
I was bummed that I forgot to get the caramel chai tea mix. And they were out of power berries, which happens a lot. I’ll have to figure out how to fit that in next year. But at least I have something to help.
And also took pictures of how I arranged it all.
I still haven’t made Christmas cards but I’m thinking about doing some New Year’s cards instead. We have so many family and friends that we don’t see often and I’d like them to see how the kids are growing.
